The Final Stop

After 27 years of picking up and dropping of students, Park County School District 6 Bus Driver Susie Berry is turning in her keys at the end of May.

She decided she wanted to retire to pursue her passion of horseback riding and to see what other doors opened after driving five different bus routes for the district. “I’m very excited to retire,” Berry said but also added that she will miss the people and kids. “I really like my job, and I think that’s a good way to leave it.”

Throughout the years, Berry said she has built a large bond with many other bus drivers. She grew up in South Dakota before moving with her parents to Basin and eventually ending up in Cody. She became a bus driver at the age of 34-years-old. One of her favorite experiences out of many was driving to Salt Lake with the speech team and being able to be there with the kids while sightseeing.

Having the kids on the bus filled the role of children in her life. “I don’t have any kids, but I have a full bus load,” she said. Berry has had some crazy experiences like getting stuck in the snow and having the kids of kids she drove around at the beginning. “I have these kids, and now I’m driving their kids,” she said.

After 27 years and of five routes of giving rides, it’s now her turn to take ride to her retirement.
