The 2014 film, The Quiet Ones, directed by John Pogue and written by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman, John Pogue, and Tom De Ville, is about possession and identity. The main characters are Professor Joseph Coupland (Jared Harris), Brian McNeil (Sam Claflin), Krissi Dalton (Erin Richards), Harry Abrams (Rory Fleck Byrne), and Jane Harper (Olivia Cooke).

A professor teaching in Oxford in 1974 invites a group of his trusting students to help him with an experiment on a young girl named Jane Harper. Jane has no memory of her past and is repeatedly abandoned by her foster families. She believes she is possessed by a doll named Evey. Professor Joseph gives her an actual doll, so she can put Evey into the doll so she won’t be possessed anymore.

Brian soon feels bad for Jane and all the experiments they are conducting, and decides he to do some research on her tattoo, leading him to learn of her terrible past.

While the ending is pretty ominous, it does leave viewers with a totally unpredictable finale.
