State Tennis took place Sep. 20-11 in Gillette, Wy with the Fillies varsity team taking third place, and the Bronc team placing tenth.

Juniors Maddy Icenoggle and Simona Wambeke took first in Girls #1 Doubles. Junior Teagan Thompson took second in Girls #2 Singles.

Senior Tessa Blough finished her High School Tennis career with a fourth place finish after splitting sets in the consolation finals, with Kelly Walsh’s Finnley Klinger.

Thompson lost after a controversial call by Cheyenne Central’s Emily Needham.

In Wyoming High School Tennis there are no line judges except on request. Players are required to call shots in or out. If a player believes their opponent is being dishonest in their calls they can call for a line judge.

Thompson called for a line judge several times throughout the match. However, the line judge didn’t spend much time watching the match to make sure the calls were fair.

At the last point many Cody supporters who had watched the match jumped to their feet yelling that the call was unfair. When the line judge was called, he decided that there was nothing to do and the call stood, therefore ending the match.

Spring Tennis will start in Late March of 2019.
