At the Mayfair tournament in Billings, MT the CHS Spring Tennis team successfully competed against top state players in Wyoming and Montana.

In addition to the Mayfair, the team also competed against Kelly Walsh, Natrona, Green River, Gillette, and Hardin, MT during the six-week long season.

Hitting short shots, warming up, and stretching is how the two hour practices started. The practices have helped the team with positive outcomes on the court and within the team’s chemistry.

“Tennis has always been a really comforting family that I can bounce back to when needed,” said sophomore Simona Wambeke.

Wambeke has been part of the tennis team “family” since her freshman year. She strives to become the team’s number one singles player.

Another team member who has bonded with the team is freshman Sage Crofts.

“The team is my number one motivation. They are my family. I know no matter the outcome of a game, they will support me and cheer me on until the end,” said Crofts.

Sophomore Ian Townsend has been playing tennis since fourth grade, and was always interested in the sport since he first attended tennis camps in the summers.

“The season has been wonderful. We’re a family that sticks together through thick and thin,” said Townsend.

CHS tennis is filled with various characters that bring their own strengths and weaknesses to the court.

Whether they are better playing singles than doubles, or front court rather than back, the Cody tennis team was filled with determination, enjoyment, and confidence as they took second at their division and first at Mayfair.

“We sure have played a full schedule this spring, which has really helped our younger players get experience and have some success,” coach Norm Sedig said, adding that there are high hopes with his team in the seasons to come.
