Dear Cody Community,

For the past few weeks, Cody High School seniors Lucille Sax, Jordan Nelson and I have been planning the March For Our Lives on March 24, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at City Park. We are working with Wyoming Rising to organize and fund the event, a call for action from students to Congress to  promote and further develop school safety legislation.

The event will start with a march around the Park, and then we will break for speakers. Many of our speakers are CHS students who want to have a say in how they will be protected from violence at school.

Our mission is the same as the national March For Our Lives:

“School safety is not a political issue. There cannot be two sides to doing everything in our power to ensure the lives and futures of children who are at risk of dying when they should be learning, playing, and growing.  The mission and focus of March For Our Lives is to demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address these gun issues.” (March For Our Lives Mission Statement.)

Miss Sax, Nelson and I would like to invite the Cody Community to march with us. We hope to create a united front against violence towards children. We believe that no child should go to school fearing it may be their last day.

We would also like to ask anyone not wishing to participate in our event to remain kind and peaceful, whether it be on social media or while speaking to those who do support and participate. Our goal is to unite and stand up for those who have been or will be heavily affected by violence in schools.

We thank you for your participation, support and respect. Enough is enough. We must refuse to let another innocent life be taken by senseless violence. Stand with us on March 24.

Sincerely,

Caitlyn Murray
