A Christmas Carol and a Christmas Performance

Standing ovations and endless cheering filled the auditorium after the final song was heard by the audience of the CHS Christmas Band and Choir Concert on Dec. 11. The hymn, Hallelujah!  was performed by the CHS band, choirs, and audience members who were invited to the stage.

CHS Equestria!, SYNERGY, and Singing Ensemble choirs, and CHS Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Percussion Ensemble all had their spotlight on the stage.

The concert featured 23 songs with an audience big enough to fill most of the seats in the auditorium.

“I thought all the ensembles performed at high levels, and we all blended very well together,” said senior trumpet player Duke Dickson.

The concert started off with the CHS Singing Ensemble performing Home is Where the Heart is by Carl Strommen. This song featured flute soloist Ellie Wooden. They also sang songs Season’s Greetings! by Mary Lynn Lightfoot and Christmas Gifts by Harnick/Raposo.

The CHS Jazz Band performed five songs, including Santa Baby arranged by Roger Holmes, which featuring a vocal solo by junior Aili Roberson and a trumpet solo by sophomore Hunter Kindt. The Jazz Band also performed A Charlie Brown Christmas arranged by Paul Murtha, Up On The Housetop arranged by Roger Holmes, The Christmas Song arranged by Paul Clark,  and Hot Chocolate arranged by John Berry.

Equestria! performed three songs, Still, Still, Still by Catalonian Carol, Fum, Fum, Fum! by Robert Wetzler, and That’s the Recipe for Christmas by Robert W.

CHS Percussion Ensemble also performed three songs all arranged by Chris Crockarell. Good King Wenceslas, Angels We Have Heard On High, and Here Drums Santa Claus.

The CHS Synergy performed four songs, Give Me A Silent Night by Julie Gardner Bray, Silver Bells by Charles Naylor, Holiday Processional by Brad Printz,  and Rockin’ ‘Round the Christmas Tree arranged Kirby Shaw.

The last group to perform was the CHS Concert Band performing songs, A Jingle Bells Fantasy by James Swearingen, Highlights from FROZEN arranged by Sean O’Loughlin, Celtic Bell Carol by Robert W. Smith, Greensleeves arranged by Alfred Reed.
